Follow on Google News | "Vampyrically Speaking" - New art Exhibition by DIENZO"Vampyrically Speaking" marks DIENZO's first solo exhibition at Hyaena Gallery in Burbank with a collection of all new paintings. Dienzo takes on the subject of vampires in his own unique style!
By: Iluminar Creative Group Rick “Dienzo” Blanco is a Los Angeles area artist whose collection of sinister little characters are meant to intrigue, entice and perhaps cause a bit of anxiety. “I’ve always been inspired by the darker side of life,” says Dienzo. Having contributed to various themed group shows throughout Southern California, (including pirates, zombies, goth assassins and the like,) it seems only fitting that Dienzo would choose to focus on vampires for his solo show. This collection of over 20 new original paintings brings to life his unique take on big-eyed characters that drip murky streams of mascara, lounge in satiated conceit, or seductively prowl in their quest for blood. Influenced by iconic references of popular culture throughout his life, Dienzo manages to fuse diverse eras and styles into a series of accessible characters and vignettes that form a visual language of vampirism. Also unique to this show is his collaboration with Gothic Lolita maven, La Carmina. “Her insightful and diligent reporting of trends adds relevance to the genre and I was truly inspired by her sense of style,” states Dienzo. He not only incorporated fashions created by the designer into some of his works, but painted one of Carmina herself. Hyaena Gallery was a strategic choice of venue for the artist given its acclaim for unique creative offerings. The gallery’s tagline, “odd things for eclectic tastes,” is indicative of the broad range of lowbrow and outsider art, memorabilia and collectibles not offered anywhere else. Dienzo adds, “Bill Shafer (Hyaena’s owner and curator) has been instrumental to building a community of artists within Los Angeles that are gaining recognition across the globe.” WHEN: : May 16th-23rd, 2009 Reception for the Artist: May 16th, 8pm - Midnight WHERE: : Hyaena Gallery 1928 W.
