May 11, 2009 - PRLog -- Altep, Inc. , a leading provider of discovery and review services for large-scale litigation, today announced the availability of Magnetic Media Discovery service.  The technology allows Altep to directly index offline backup tapes and other types of magnetic media, without first restoring their content.  Users can then search for relevant information, and select individual files and e-mails for extraction.

“This method offers tremendous time- and cost-savings over the traditional approach, in which the entire tape contents had to be restored and indexed before they could be searched,” said Judy Torres, Vice President for Information Services. “Our primary goal is to provide efficient and innovative tools and methods for our clients’ benefit, so we’re very excited about this offering.”

Importantly, the Magnetic Media Discovery technology allows stored data to be searched and extracted even when the client organization does not own the original backup software or source environment.  Formerly time-consuming and expensive, the process of cataloging, indexing, searching and extraction is now automated.  Additionally, the necessity of full tape restoration is eliminated. Together, these factors have the potential to reduce the time and cost associated with discovery of magnetic media by up to eighty percent.
