This flexibility just isn’t possible with a public service like the Royal Mail and as demand for such services grows, prices will continue to fall.”
Back in 2007 the then Trade Minister Alastair Darling MP announced plans to close 2,500 of the country’s Post Offices by the end of this year, and prior to that announcement 4,000 had already been axed from the nation’s dwindling postal network. As Lord Mandelson proposed a full Royal Mail privatisation earlier this year it seems that the service’s fate is already sealed. “While it is a shame to see such an institution fall to the private sector it is of vital importance that people can access cost-effective and reliable delivery services, and it would seem that private delivery companies are better equipped to provide this,” added Mr. Hughes.
