With ten years in the real estate business, there was indeed little that Thompson hadn't helped arrange for transplants new to the Denver area. And there are few in her zip code who haven't heard of her uncanny ability to sniff out quality in a sea of not always reliable contractors.
Which had Thompson wondering if there wasn't perhaps a second career trapped somewhere inside her hectic daily real estate schedule, just waiting to get out.
The current housing market downturn seems to have provided her with an answer.
Leaving her job with a Denver area realtor in January, Thompson gathered her copious notes and rolodex of name cards and reinvented herself as Let's Concierge it! -- a boutique agency exclusively dedicated to connecting busy professionals with providers of household services they themselves don't have the time to search out.
And if soaring month-to-month revenues are any indication, Thompson has found her true calling in helping others free up time for other pursuits. "I'm unsurprised and yet dumbfounded by the robust market there turns out to be for knowledgeable concierge services," says Thompson. "The slower economy has many professionals working longer hours scrambling after new business -- putting a premium on my own skills."
Her growing list of clients suggests that this isn't just beginners' luck. Along with her existing client base Thompson is benefiting from a surge in new referrals only too eager to make her acquaintance.
Paraphrasing Humphrey Bogart's famous line in the movie Casablanca a gratified Thompson adds, "I think this is the beginning of many beautiful friendships."
