Follow on Google News | New Florida Zipline Offers Glimpse of BiodiversityZipline Safari's is the first zipline in Florida. Rather than just a thrill ride, it is designed as a eco-adventure, with expert guides offering an educational experience on biodiversity along with an exciting adventure.
By: Beverly Saltonstall For the first time, vacationers can now enjoy a zipline adventure as part of their Florida vacation. Zipline Safari has opened the first zipline adventure in Florida. Located in St. Cloud, which is about an hour’s drive from Disney World, Zipline Safari offers you a bird’s eye view of the natural surroundings of the area. Zipline Safari is located on a 4,700 acre eco ranch and wildlife conservation area called Forever Florida. In addition to the zipline adventure, they offer horseback safari’s and coach safaris. The area has nine distinct ecosystems that can be explored; forests, pine flatwoods, wetlands, prairies, streams and more. Wildlife viewing is very popular at the ranch, and visitors often spot white-tailed deer, alligators, black bears, Sandhill Cranes, river otter, Crested Caracaras and the endangered Florida panther and more. According to marketing director Matt Duda, 30 percent of the company profits are being donated to the Allen Broussard Conservancy so the land can be preserved in perpetuity. Bill and Margaret Broussard, have created the Conservancy in honor of their son, an ecologist, who died in 1990 at the age of 29. Bill Broussard, an ophthalmologist, is a 10th generation Floridian and owns Crescent J Ranch here in Florida. After the death of their son, Bill and Margaret have been purchasing land surrounding their ranch to create the Conservancy. This land is known as Forever Florida. (Not to be confused with Florida Forever, a state run land-purchasing conservation program) Forever Florida has been offering eco-safari’s since 1966, and has set up the Zipline Safari to be more of an education experience rather than just a thrill ride. The two-and-a-half hour tour offers a glimpse of the wonderful biodiversity that Florida has to offer. Expert guides will be teaching the participants about the importance of conservation and biodiversity while offering lots of thrills. After a short hike along the Florida trail, you arrive at thee launching platform and receive instructions and your safety harness and gear. The course has been designed by EBL Canopy tours, which is an eco-based adventure travel company. The zipline will take you over three different ecosystems, two sky bridges and seven zips. You will be as high as 55 feet in the air and can travel at speed up to 25mph. Professional ziplines such as these give the participants a whole new prospective on the ecology of the terrain they are seeing. Taking the Moonlight Zipline Safari, will give you a unique look at the world at night. For information and reservations, call 866-854-3837 or visit http://floridaecosafaris.com.
