Buying appliances in the past almost always involved a trip to a local showroom, and the retailer would get the sale. The way shopping has evolved in the last decade, due solely to the internet, has brought about a new generation of consumers who buy appliances through an internet store.

Braeg Heneffe, general manager of Internet Kitchen Appliances, points out it isn't just about seeing products, but also the practicalities: "Unlike fast moving consumer goods, appliances are bulky, difficult to handle and expensive to repair when damaged. Also retail parks are busier than ever, and traffic on the weekend gives us all a headache. When given the choice we would rather spend our spare time doing other things."

He went on to add: "When you have a new kitchen, there are so many things to think about, sometimes it's simply much easier to buy appliances on the internet."
