PRLog (Press Release) - May 08, 2009 -
The Southern Classic Roundball Invitational (SCRI) is known as one of the largest Pro-Am summer basketball tournaments in the southeast. Michael and Alicia Reckord founded this “grass-roots” event in 2002. Held every third weekend in August in Atlanta, GA; this event started with ten teams primarily from the Metro Atlanta area and a few out of state teams. Teams were derived of players with the ability and desire to play at the highest level with limited avenues to do so.

The SCRI has since grown to over 26 men’s teams from across the country. Top teams have been represented from more than thirteen states as well as the U.S. Virgin Island team with assistant coach Jim Harrick, former head coach at UCLA and Georgia. Participants are men ranging in age from 18 to 38. Featured is a youth exposition targeting boys ages 17 and under.

Several teams are made up of current & former NBA, over-seas, college players and those who have played major D-1 basketball. A listing of players include: Josh Smith, Jarred Jack, Travis Best, Damien Wilkins, Trent Hassel, Mario West, Antonio Davis, Steve Smith, Dale Davis, Willie & Shandon Anderson, Jabari Smith, Grant Long, Jermaine Jones, Dennis Scott, Dion Glover, Chris Dudley, Roshawn McLeod and Anthony “Pig” Miller.
