PITTSBURGH…LarsonO’
Petry, a University of Pittsburgh senior communication and rhetoric major with a public and professional writing certificate, was honored for her work on an advertising campaign for a fictitious cupcake company. The writing intensive project was structured to target college students in the Oakland area, as well as the greater Pittsburgh community.
“Winning this award was truly an honor,” says Petry. “It’s a great feeling to have my writing skills recognized by both LarsonO’Brien and the University of Pittsburgh.”
“Excellent writing skills are critical to success in advertising, public relations and most other fields,” explains Jack O’Brien, president of LarsonO’Brien. “The University of Pittsburgh’s English Department places a strong emphasis on developing the skills of written communication in order to prepare students for their careers. We’re happy to associate ourselves with such a positive program.”
The Excellence in Public and Professional Writing award recognizes a University of Pittsburgh undergraduate student whose project entry best demonstrates an excellent use of style, presents a topic carefully researched and supported, is engaging, meets the needs of its readers and offers a clear message.
The panel of judges was comprised of Jack O’Brien, president of LarsonO’Brien, two University of Pittsburgh faculty members and a University of Pittsburgh graduate student.
