By: PDA Marketing His incredible experience and vast knowledge of trumpet playing began at age 9. Before graduating from East Carolina University in 1970, Mr. Cameron auditioned and won the 3rd/Asst. 1st trumpet position in the North Carolina Symphony. In graduate school at Peabody Conservatory of Music, he won the Principal Trumpet position in the Annapolis Symphony under famed pianist and conductor Leon Fleischer. At age 19, Mr. Cameron performed with the London Symphony and in Baltimore; he performed with the Baltimore Symphony. He has been 1st trumpet in the Chesapeake Brass Quintet for 30 years. He has been featured soloist with various orchestras and bands on the East Coast. Mr. Cameron has also conducted many ensembles during his career, such as the Frederick Symphony, The Peabody Brass Ensemble, The Peabody Prep Brass Ensemble, The Peabody Prep Wind Ensemble, Night Train (jazz ensemble from Essex Community College), and lastly, for the last 18 years, Mr. Cameron has conducted the University of Maryland, Baltimore County Symphony. Cameron teaches trumpet lessons at various schools in Baltimore and Washington area, including Peabody Conservatory of Music, UMBC, Shepherd University, Morgan State University and York College of Pennsylvania. “I studied with Wayne for 6 years during high school and college. He taught me how to continuously self-evaluate my playing and I developed a rich tone that was even across registers, smooth articulations, and expressive skills that made the music come alive. When I had difficulties with my embouchure, he always had a new analogy to relate to the physical experiences of playing. He teaches you how to teach yourself and diagnose any problems you might have. Wayne is an amazing teacher and is one of the most influential teachers I have ever had,” says previous student Melissa Wittnebel. Students of Mr. Cameron have been accepted with scholarships to Eastman School of Music, Oberlin, Berkley School of Music, Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati Conservatory, Cleveland Institute of Music, Manhattan School of Music and Peabody Conservatory of Music. The new school, Penn State, University of New Mexico, Carnige Mellon, Temple University, James Madison University, University of Colorado, University of California, to name but a few.
