(Omaha, NE ) The premier youth football program in West Omaha – the Omaha Thunder, 2007 National Champions in 13/14 year old division has changed it’s name and direction. Now G.O.Y.F., Greater Omaha Youth Football has created three separate teams that will feed directly into the Millard High School football programs.
“We are very proud of the former players that have gone on to very successful high school and now college football careers”, said Todd Fisher President of G.O.Y.F.. “Yet our Omaha Thunder team was evenly split with kids that eventually went on to each of the three Millard High Schools.” Fisher added, “this helped a few prepare for at the time Millard West as we emulated their program, but didn’t really help prepare kids going to Millard South or Millard North”.
In 2008, G.O.Y.F. started three separate programs, the Jr. Wildcats (Millard West), Jr. Patriots, (Millard South) and the Jr. Mustangs (Millard North). Scott Pullen, GM of the Jr. Mustangs said “by creating programs that feed each school we can start teaching kids the fundamental offense and defensive schemes of the high school program they will eventually play in.” Pullen said, “our program is a proven system, from teaching 9 & 10 year olds the fundamental to eventually preparing 8th graders for what they will expect next year in high school”.
G.O.Y.F. has produced several All-State, All-Conference & All-District players. The coaching staff with G.O.Y.F. has several National Championships. Most recently Coach Pullen was honored with an invitation to Coach a National All-Star team in Florida last winter.
Today, G.O.Y.F. is preparing for additional growth, fielding three teams per-high school program. There will be a 9&10 year old team, 11&12 year old team and 13/14 year old team. Each team will look like miniature versions of their high school teams. “For parents looking for a program that will give their kids a clear focused path to the next level, this program fits the bill” said Dave Frakes Marketing Director. Frakes added, “the first day of freshman football is overwhelming for kids, to have a player with 3 or 4 years experience running the same offense and defense before day one of high school practice gives players a huge advantage at the next level.”
Fisher commented, “the response to G.O.Y.F. has been overwhelming. We have made substantial investments into equipment this year to prepare for the increase in players”. Fisher concluded, “we are taking registrations right now”.
