KIDS IN NEED FOUNDATION CELEBRATES TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
May 3–May 9, 2009
DAYTON, OH – May 3, 2009 – The Kids In Need Foundation honors teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 3–9, 2009. Teacher Appreciation Week is dedicated to expressing gratitude for the knowledge, devotion and expertise educators bring to classrooms nationwide.
"We are thrilled to recognize the hard work our educators do everyday to help our students thrive," said Dave Smith, executive director, Kids in Need Foundation. "We appreciate their ability to instill a love of learning among students, and motivate them to achieve their own personal best.”
The Kids In Need Foundation provides free school supplies to students through a national network of free stores for teachers, and also awards grants to educators for innovative classroom projects.
The Foundation also presents the Kids in Need Foundation Teacher of the Year award annually, acknowledging one of their outstanding grant recipients.
The first Kids in Need Foundation Teacher of the Year award honors Tammy Haggerty Jones, a third grade social studies teacher at Strassburg School in Sauk Village, Illinois. Haggerty Jones demonstrated her passion for experiential learning.
“No matter how hard I try to relax and unwind, the creative juices in my head won’t turn off,” said Haggerty Jones. “I enjoy writing curriculum that engages my students in active learning, and I teach every child as if he or she was my own.”
The sponsor of the first annual Kids in Need Foundation Teacher of the Year Award is Fibre-Craft.
