Green Weddings in Boston area are economical and easier than ever

Local Boston area wedding vendors are offering services to couples wanting to have a green wedding and stay on budget.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - May 13, 2009 -
Recently, couples have been focusing on going “green,” but what they may not realize is that it is impossible to be 100% green or impact free. Couples need to take a look at all the factors and decide what matters the most to them. A couple could want to reduce their carbon footstep, only use products that are kind to animals and/or the people that produce it, is organic or locally grown or produced.  With a growing network of local vendors couples can make their dream green wedding a reality.

We’ve all heard the terms “green”, “eco-conscious” and even “eco-chic”.  They all mean the same thing – environmentally aware and stylish.  Attaching those words to your wedding does not have to mean you lose anything…especially your pocket change.  As a matter of fact, this practice can help you save cash.

There are hundreds of money/earth saving ideas a couple could utilize to make their day distinctive.  Here are just a few:

*For centerpieces, ask friends and family to donate their flower vases.  You may be surprised by how many people keep those clear, flower arrangement vases they get for special occasions.  Fill them with theme appropriate candy with scoops for your guests to eat at will.  At the end of the event guests can take their vases home with the candy in them.
*Create online invitations and a website for your “tech savvy” guests.  Send invites out to the less “tech savvy”.  This will save not only money but your time.
*Ask your family to start a tradition or maintain a tradition by reusing a wedding gown, jewelry, cake knives, or toasting flutes.

There are more ways to save money while reducing your impact on the planet.  A green wedding planner can help save you more money than you would spend for their services.  It’s what they do and it will take a lot of stress off of you and your partner during planning and day-of.

Boston area has a variety of wedding vendors that offer products or services that do not “greenwash” (a company that deceptively promotes their company as green and is not green).

•   Pure enV Planning (www.pureenvplanning.com) is a green event and wedding planning company that provides event and wedding design, a collective network of green wedding vendors in the Boston area area, vendor contract negotiation, and a how-to “green” your day guidance.
•   Authentic Eye Photography (www.authenticeye.com) is an eco-conscious wedding and portrait photography studio based in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.
•   Green Stem Designs (www.greenstemdesigns.com) is an eco-friendly floral design studio specializing in weddings and events in the Boston area area. They customize arrangements using flowers, plants, herbs and vegetables that are sustainably grown, organically grown and locally farm grown when available.
•   Hippie Chick Bakery (www.hippiechickbakery.com) is a private cake studio, creating wedding cakes using organic and locally grown ingredients, and doing business with a commitment to the earth.
•   Seams (www.seamstheshop.com) gowns are made in the USA in their woman-owned sweatshop-free studio. They create custom gowns made of hemp, peace silk, and other sustainable fibers as well as recycled vintage heirlooms into a gown that suits the bride and her bridal party.
•   Special Events of Boston area (www.specialeventsofne.com) rental items fit into the “reuse” portion of the three R’s (reuse, reduce, recycle).
•   Beaver Brook Association at Maple Hill Gardens (www.beaverbrook.org) has over 2000 acres of land in southern NH.  They have never hosted a wedding due to the high waste and impact a wedding creates.  They are currently searching for the right couple that would be willing to work with them and their parameters while planning their wedding.  If you or someone you know are interested in Beaver Brook hosting your wedding and are open to a new experience, please contact Jennifer Horne at jenhorne@comcast.net.

New Englanders care about the planet more than ever.  They appreciate all that this area has to offer when they consider their wedding day.  It is a big undertaking saving the planet but it only takes a few thoughtful steps to make a difference and now Boston area wedding vendors are making it easier and more economical than ever.
