Membership is free to black belts who wish to hone their free-sparring skills, develop camaraderie, and who believe in developing character through the martial arts. The club will meet every two weeks in Mesquite, Texas.
“Safety comes first,” said Arnold Howard, club founder. “We will spar with light-to-medium contact only.
“One of the purposes of the club,” said Howard, “is to give people the opportunity to spar with members of other schools and styles. Ordinarily you would have to enter a tournament to do that.
“There are no club dues. We are simply getting together to have fun learning.”
Arnold Howard started a similar club in Pahoa, Hawaii called the Big Island Black Belt Sparring Club. “People came from all over to spar together,” said Howard. “People from competitive schools who ordinarily never worked out together met in a friendly environment.”
