In the next few years, billions will be spent by Governments on funding traineeship programs designed to lower unemployment and plug the skills gap. Up to half this money will be wasted on incomplete traineeships because learners are not motivated or cannot sustain their motivation throughout the course.
Now a talented group of young Sydney-siders are out to turn this problem around. Ben Thompson and Nathan Kitchner from Power2Motivate believe that every tax payer funded trainee deserves to be part of a rewards program. To make this happen they are offering all employers a free online platform to administer rewards for learning or any other appropriate performance. Employers only pay for the reward points awarded to employees which they can then use to redeem almost anything they could want to buy.
“It just seems crazy to me that while employers complain about losing trainees, and Governments want see funding used appropriately, nobody has stopped to motivate the learners to complete their traineeship,”
“Employers should be investing some of the $4,500 they receive in cash incentives, back into motivating their trainees to complete their learning.’
‘I think the real reason why employers and the Government fail to motivate the learners, is because they have never had the means to easily administer such rewards. Well we are out to change that.’
‘We have put together the largest employee rewards gallery in Australia which includes everything that Gen Y are after - from computers, music downloads and iPods, through to experiences like rally driving or dance lessons.”
‘Up till now online rewards platforms like ours have been out of reach to most businesses but we are offering our system free. No set up costs, no subscription fee, and no management fees. Even in these tough times there is not a business that cannot afford that.”
