1.) A great listener is a great husband. Listening, without prejudice, is not as easy as it sounds. Your wife needs to be able to vent, to cry, to rejoice, or to puzzle over things with you. She needs to feel utterly secure in doing that. Which means that you need to be able to give her what she needs without involving any of your own negative feelings such as jealousy, judgment, discomfort, or other emotions that may spring from your own insecurities. A good listener has a tough job but the rewards are immense because this builds incredible levels of trust and strengthens the bond of your marriage.
2.) Equality. Your wife wants you to see her as your partner, not your subordinate. She wants to be acknowledged for everything that she does- especially if she is a stay-at-home. Many husbands tend to view their stay-at-home housewives jobs as being less difficult than their own. Take notice of all the small things she does, compliment her on them, and always make sure she knows how much you appreciate what she does. Simply saying, "Wow, babe, the house looks great," is enough to let her know that YOU KNOW it didn't get that way by itself! 3.) Let's face it; even after years of marriage, your wife wants a little pampering every now and then. She wants a special gift, a night out, or some other gesture that keeps the romance alive and lets her know she's still your girl! 4.) Consideration is a must! Occasionally stop to check in with things. Is there anything she needs that she's not getting? Is there anything you can do to ease her burdens? Particularly during stressful times, your consideration will mean the world to her. Run her a hot bath and light some candles if she's complaining of a headache at the end of a tough day. Give her a massage. Take care of some of the household chores so that she can relax a little. Be keenly aware of what your wife is going through each day and really step outside yourself in order to see what she might be needing from you at the moment that could improve her spirits.
