MAKING LIGHT OF BEING HEAVY VIRTUAL BOOK TOUR MAY '09
These days everyone has a society-driven mindset and totally forget to laugh, especially at themselves. This may be cliche but Kandy truly believes that laughter is the best medicine and she thinks everybody should laugh every day. Period. Over the years as a person blessed with the fat gene, she has been in many situations where if she could not find humor she probably would end up on the couch in the psychiatrist's office. This book is about as politically incorrect as it gets for such a subject but it is also based on reality. This is a reality that many women have just like Kandy, but do not think they can (or should) at times just laugh about it.
Her intention when she started writing this book was to hopefully give insight to many who could never relate but at the same time perhaps provide a different perspective to women just like her. It is a point of view that has given her the strength to live her life happily and project these feelings onto everyone she comes in contact with. She has a great sense of humor and a quick wit and guarantees you will be laughing (and thinking) with each chapter of Making Light of Being Heavy.
"When I first started reading Making Light of Being Heavy I was not sure what to expect. The humor of course captured my attention and as I read I could not help but burst out laughing at the real events that the author had encountered in her life all the while quietly underneath able to relate to many of them myself but never brave enough to express aloud, half out of shame and half embarrassment. Having been on both sides of the fence both thin and overweight, I was unsure how this book would completely relate to my life but the further I went on if I did not experience it myself it was enlightening with situations that largely overweight people encounter and some of the misguided views we as a population put on how we look at our size and how others view us. It helped open my eyes to what millions face everyday and we may take for granted if uninformed. The author has the incredible ability to laugh giving voice to what others need to hear."
