HAZWOPER simulator
MARTINEZ, GA -- Employers can now train their employees online with 24 hour or 40 hour HAZWOPER courses using an OSHA approved HAZWOPER Hands-on Simulator® developed by National Environmental Trainers. In an interpretation letter dated February 4, 2009 OSHA, stated that National Environmental Trainers' exclusive HAZWOPER Hands-on Simulator® is acceptable when used in conjunction with site-specific training.
In addition to training using the HAZWOPER Hands-on Simulator®, site-specific hands-on training on the actual equipment an employee will be using is required for both online 40 hr HAZWOPER training and public seminar classroom training.
"This is a major breakthrough for online training. The industry now recognizes the effectiveness of our simulator in conveying how to don and doff personal protective equipment (PPE) as well as conducting decontamination exercises. We currently are the only online HAZWOPER training provider with any type of simulator. As stated by OSHA, employers who only send employees to a public 40 Hour HAZWOPER seminar/class and rely solely on this training for hands-on training, they are not meeting the OSHA standard. To be compliant with OSHA standards, site-specific hands-on training must be performed.
This statement from OSHA may come as a surprise to many employers as some classroom providers of this training will tell you they conduct hands-on training, leading them to believe that they have met the OSHA requirements. But while these classroom providers may conduct hands-on training, they cannot perform site-specific hands-on training in a seminar open to anyone.
