May 1, 2009 - PRLog -- According to energy saving research (http://www.hrmagazine.co.uk/channel/news/article/894461/Majority-workers-want-help-company-save-money-cutting-energy-consumption/) from the Carbon Trust, 78% of employees are prepared to help their employers save money by being more energy efficient. Not only is this great news for companies looking to make cost savings, but it also supports the fight against climate change!

Unfortunately, 82% of those surveyed also said they regularly see colleagues wasting energy during the working day. As a specialist provider of hot drinks vending machines, it’s a topic we hold close to our hearts here at Mars Drinks (http://www.marsdrinks.co.uk/default.aspx). So we thought it would help to share some of our Top Tips to saving energy – and money – at work.

1. Turn lights off – it doesn’t have to be as dramatic as Earth Hour (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CRs-7lRlPo) when 3,200 cities in 88 countries turned their lights off to raise awareness of climate change. Just turn off lights in a room when you leave. As a helping hand, use energy efficient lights – like our hot drinks machine displays which use LED indicators to reduce energy consumption.

2. Just use the energy you need – from turning off taps through to switching off kitchen appliances, it’s the smaller things that can make a big difference. Take a tip from the FLAVIA Creation 400™  drink machine, which only heats the water it needs for a few cups at a time so no heat or water is wasted.

3. Is that machine really off? – appliances can sometimes remain in standby mode even when you’ve pressed the ‘off’ button. But don’t worry, even while your KLIX and FLAVIA vending machines are switched on, they use less energy than competitor office coffee machines when idle.

4. Review existing electrical equipment – often old equipment can use the most power so check out their energy efficiency rating. We test ourselves using the European Vending Association Energy Measurement Protocol to make sure our hot drinks vending machines are as efficient as possible to help save you money.

5. Fresh thinking – sharing ideas and adopting new approaches can be a great way of saving energy. At a time when reducing costs and energy use is vital, it’s good to take an innovative approach and talk to those with experience.
