Us Navy Orders Additional Sonardyne Sentinel Sonar System

April 30, 2009 - PRLog -- This announcement follows the completion of rigorous acceptance and readiness trials by NUWC in 2008 when Sentinel was shown to meet the US Navy’s performance requirements for diver detection. The latest contract adds an additional Sentinel to the new Integrated Swimmer Defence System. This is being led by the Program Executive Office, Littoral Mine Warfare (PEO-LMW - PMS480) and the first Sentinel was delivered to NUWC in March 2009.

           Sentinel is a compact underwater surveillance sonar that automatically detects, tracks and classifies subsea targets including surface swimmers, divers and submersible vehicles. Sentinel provides users with complete subsea domain awareness for any marine asset or water-side infrastructure vulnerable to underwater attack. This can include vessels, ports and harbours and offshore energy facilities. It can operate autonomously or as part of an integrated security system that might also incorporate surface radar and electro-optic devices,

           Commenting on the latest contract, Eric Levitt, Business Development Manager, Americas said, “This latest contract from the US Navy confirms Sentinel’s reputation as an affordable system with proven capability that is ready for operational deployment.” He added, “It is also recognition of the considerable investment in people and system development undertaken by Sonardyne and NUWC.”
