Just Us Women Productions, LLC has partnered with Gentle Spirit Midwifery Women's Health Services to provide a well balanced childbirth preparation class that addresses the needs of families planning out of hospital births. Traditional childbirth classes focus on hospital protocol and procedures while everything else is viewed as an alternative. This new series of classes views birth from a different angle using the Midwifery Model of Care as the starting point for educating women and their labor support partners. The Midwifery Model of Care definition is taken from the Midwifery Model Task Force and it is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life events. The Midwives Model of Care includes: monitoring the physical, psychological and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle; providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support; minimizing technological interventions and; identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention. The application of this model has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section. Two 3 day series are being offered in June and August. Saturday June 6,13 and 20 from 11:00am to 2:00pm and Saturday, August 1, 8 and 15 from 11:00am to 2:00pm. Classes are open to Gentle Spirit Midwifery clients and the community. Interested women are encouraged to check in advance with their health insurance company or Health/Flexible Savings Account to find out if the cost is covered or reimbursable.
