Our Thornhill salons and spas say that a nail salons should offer well-lit, clean work areas and tools that are maintained in good repair and not rusty and old looking.
Our Woodbridge salons tell us that all tools must be cleaned and disinfected before and after use. Ask salon staff how they clean and disinfect their tools. The city of Toronto specifies that acceptable disinfectants for tools that may penetrate the skin or come in contact with blood or body fluids are 70-90% isopropyl or ethyl alcohol or 1:100 bleach solution. Tools must be cleaned, and then immersed in disinfectants for at least 10 minutes. UV “sterilizers”
Our Richmond Hill salons remind us that any item that cannot be disinfected (e.g., wood nail files, toe separators, pumice stones and Birchwood sticks) cannot be used on more than one client.
Our Woodbridge salons follow the simple rule of make sure razor blades used for pedicures are pre-packaged, sterile and single-use.
Our Toronto salons always make sure clean towels are provided and that salon staff are required to clean their hands between clients. Clients receiving manicures should also clean their hands.
Our Richmond Hill hair salons and day spas say that clients’ nails should be examined for discoloration before starting any procedure. If a nail is discoloured (i.e. yellow-green)
And of course our best Mississauga hair salons and day spas always make sure that all lotions and creams must be dispensed in a manner that does not contaminate the remaining lotion or cream. And yes foot baths must be cleaned and disinfected between clients.
