Clean Cambridge.Org is organizing a Spring Cambridge Cleanup during the first weekend in May, 05/02/09 & 05/03/09, 9:00 am-noon. This is the first annual citywide cleanup across all the neighborhoods in Cambridge, MA. The Cambridge Cleanup is an initiative by local residents and businesses to come out and clean around residential and commercial properties. Mayor Denise Simmons and the Mayor’s Volunteer Corps are supporting the event. Residents and businesses are encouraged to sign up at http://www.cleancambridge.org/
On April 21st, 2009, President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, designed to strengthen community service efforts. During his speech, he stated “All that's required on your part is a willingness to make a difference. And that is, after all, the beauty of service. Anybody can do it." Clean Cambridge.Org brings community service to a local level, offering a great opportunity for Cambridge residents of all ages to clean up the city, meet their neighbors, and have fun.
A variety of organizations will be participating, as well as individual residents and local businesses. Heading Home, a non-profit organization with the mission to end homelessness in Greater Boston, will be leading the East Cambridge cleanup.
