Chrysallis organises the final meeting of How to Be Understood Project

Chrysallis–Close to Disability organizes the final meeting of How to Be Understood Project which will be held in Athens 01 - 03 May 2009. The meeting will take place at Athinais Hotel on 01/05/09 with the scope of the progress of the project.

Chrysallis – Close to Disability organizes the final meeting of How to Be Understood Project which will be held in Athens 01 - 03 May 2009. The meeting will take place at Athinais Hotel (9:30 am) on 1st of May 2009 with the scope of the analysis and progress of the project.

The “How to talk to be understood” project is funded by the Life Long Learning, Grundtvig (Learning Partnership) programme.  The ultimate goal of the project is to develop in adults with autism one of the basic skills, i.e. social communication, by means of a multimedia didactic program prepared with international cooperation and released on a Multilanguage CD.
The aims of the project are:
-   International exchange of experiences, work methods, and solutions concerning supporting social communication of autistic persons in partner countries.
-   Creation of the multimedia program for social communication development.
-   Increase of extra-institutional and lifelong learning availability for adults with autism.
-   Development of workbench for people working with autistic adults’ group (assistants) based on international exchange.
-   Improvement of autistic adults’ quality of life.

The project is targeted at high-functioning adults with autism who belong to disadvantageous disabled group because autism impairs communication skills, social interactions and cognitive functions and has strong impact on the independent life when the level of social demands increases.
Chrysallis is a non-profit voluntary organisation that strives to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. We, as Chrysallis, work against the discrimination and exclusion that people with disabilities face in all aspects of society aiming in their socio-economical and educational integration and the elimination of the stereotypes and disabled labels. Chrysallis emphasizes in the socialization of people with disabilities by offering them opportunities for life long learning, support and knowledge in new technologies. The knowledge and experience of Chrysallis members on disability issues provides guidelines and suggestions for the best interest of people with disabilities focusing on new research and educational methods, accessibility issues, equality, independence as well as good practices.
Our activities are to

-   create and provide fully accessible e-Learning courses that will enhance the socio-economical and educational level of people with disabilities.
- contribute in the development of new accessible technologies.
- provide psychological support to people with disabilities and to their families.
- provide consultancy in respect to disability  issues.
We believe in a translational environment where good practices would be established and hence enrich the knowledge and abilities of people with and without disabilities.
