A New Cast of Characters is Born

Local director Kurt Donath is bringing to life a new cast of superheroes and villains in his locally-made motion picture production “Lucky Streak & the Crimefighters.” With names like Amazing Grace, Bandit, Shocker and Lucky Streak, the new heroes battle villains like Dr. Dragon and the huge hammer-wielding muscle-man Goliath to save the planet.

Taking a 21st century approach and to appeal to a worldwide audience, Donath has decided to market this “film” on the Internet in the form of a web series. The first episode will go live on You Tube (www.youtube.com/luckystreaktheseries) this Saturday, May 2, which is FREE Comic Book Day!

In addition, on that day some of the cast members will be appearing at Docking Bay '94: Comics and Games, 7710 NW 56th Wy., #100, Pompano Beach (Loxahatchee Rd & 441), while the sneak peek of their first episode will be looped for all to see.

This film has been a long time in the making. Spanning approximately a year’s time, this project includes complicated special effects. It was filmed with South Florida actors, many of whom have gone to other parts since, such as New York. They also brought in Kasey Poteet, a popular model from Los Angeles to add to the sizzle factor. The plot runs a bit like a soap opera, delving into the lives of each of the superheroes, much like the successful “The Watchmen” did recently, but it remains clean-cut enough for the kiddies. The director feels that kids will love the film, but comic book fans everywhere will appreciate it for its sharp writing, undercurrent of wit and unique elements.

Donath, founder of his production company, Aberdeen Soldier, hopes to do a part two of “Lucky Streak & the Crimefighters” (formerly known as “Caped Crusaders”) in the near future. In the meantime, he is concentrating on introducing his cast of characters into the world. Many cast members have already attended several comic book conventions, including MegaCon in Orlando recently and Florida Supercon last year. They plan on attending the now Miami based Florida Supercon again this year in June.
