Photographer Alison Wright, who has led international photo expeditions for the National Geographic Society and had her work published in numerous magazines and newspapers, will lead a photo workshop in Mendoza, Argentina, from September 12-21, 2009.
“This workshop offers an exceptional opportunity for a small number of photo enthusiasts not only to shoot with a pro, but also to learn tips of the trade and have their work reviewed by an expert,” explains Ellen Hoffman, President of the Mendoza Intercultural Association which is sponsoring the event. (MIA is a Mendoza-based non-profit whose purpose is to promote intercultural exchange. Visit http://www.mdz-
“Alison is a talented, highly successful pro who has traveled the world documenting the people and cultures of such diverse places as Mongolia, Afghanistan and Kenya.” Her published work includes “A Simple Monk,” a book on the Dalai Llama, featuring her photographs.
Mendoza is a European-style city known for its parks and sidewalk cafes, its lively restaurant scene and vibrant cultural life. The region is famous for its Malbec and other fine wines.
Throughout the nine-day workshop participants will enjoy local attractions including excellent meals, wine-tasting, and cultural events such as a tango demonstration. Participants will also have a chance to meet and exchange perspectives with one or more local photographers.
Workshop lodging as well as some meals and activities will be at the centrally-located Posada de Rosas boutique inn (http://www.posadaderosas.com ). Innkeepers are American writer Ellen Hoffman and artist Riccardo Accurso. The inn, with its terrace, garden and pool, is located in a typical home on a tree-lined street, easy walking distance from Mendoza’s central Independence Plaza, parks, shopping and restaurants.
Wright asks students to bring their own cameras and if shooting digital, bring their own computers for editing. She’s also requesting students to bring up to 15 images, prints or digital, for an initial class portfolio review.
