AUSTIN, TX – ISDG - Austin, Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of the “Forgotten Gateway: Coming To America Through Galveston Island” website. This new promotional website coincides with the Museum’s traveling exhibit which chronicles The Port of Galveston’s largely forgotten history as a major gateway to American immigration from 1845 to 1924. Forgotten Gateway builds on a growing scholarly and public interest into the history of migration patterns to America and Galveston’s place (as one of the nation’s top immigrant ports) in that history.
ISDG’s new website for the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum (http://www.forgottengateway.com) promotes enduring humanities themes in the history of immigration including: the dangers of the journey; making a life in a new land; navigating bureaucracy;
Nashid Madyun, Director of the Texas State History Museum commented, “ISDG has not only provided a slick, functional, and educationally grounded site for us to engage our patrons, they have provided our team with the right tools needed to fully maximize our traffic to the exhibit. It’s professional relationships like these that help cultural destinations keep the competitive edge in a technologically savvy world.”
The Forgotten Gateway exhibit and website was truly a team effort, involving literally dozens of collaborating partners within the museum, the city, and the throughout the rest of the country. These collaborations included humanities scholars, archeologists, historians, anthropologists, designers, analysis, novelists, and evaluators who advised on content every step of the way, as did a group of community partners who met quarterly throughout the planning period of the exhibit. In addition, ISDG worked with the museum staff, data analysis,
collaborating arts and culture institutions throughout the Greater Austin area to procure the assets for the website development.
Forgotten Gateway exhibit will remain in Austin at the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum until October 2009 when it will then begin its journey to museums around Texas and the rest of the United States over the next year and-a-half. ISDG anticipates the Forgotten Gateway website will continue to be the portal for exhibit information, promotion, and ticket information sales during the tour.
