New Brunswick, NJ – Kids and Teens can find out what’s funny, learn the basics of musical theatre, or explore what goes into a theatre production – both off-and onstage – this summer at George Street Playhouse. GSP’s Academy is offering their annual slate of summer classes for kids and teens starting June 16 and running through August 8. The summer theatre program provides all-day theatre camp for students ages 5-12 and teens, all staffed by professional teaching artists. Additional services offered are an early drop off (beginning 8:30 am) as well as extended care (until 6pm) on an individual basis (must be arranged in advance, additional charge). One- and Two-Week Theatre Classes – June 22 – August 7 (Ages 5 –12)
Our one-week classes provide a fun and educational environment for students to learn about varied aspects of theatre and performance.
Play Production June 22 – July 3
Get out of the wings, and get on stage! If you’ve always wanted to perform on stage, this is your chance! Students will explore the magic of theatre by creating and performing a play on the main stage. Students will learn and develop their actor skills including ensemble building, body and voice. All is possible when you are On Stage. This class ends with a performance for family and friends on the main stage at the George Street Playhouse.
Musical Theatre July 6 -17
“Sing out Louise” and let your voice be heard! Students will learn the basics of musical theatre in this one-week class. Students will learn and develop their skills in dance, voice and musical theatre presentation styles. There will be a presentation of skills learned for families and friends on the final day of the class.
Louder, Faster, Funnier July 20-24
Can you tell a joke, do a funny skit or make a great funny face? If so, come join us and share your comedic talent in Louder, Faster, Funnier! Students will explore the works of classic comedians and current performers as well as develop their own comedic skills. Students will be able to make friends and family laugh until they cry at a final presentation on the last day of class.
Junior Company July 27 - 31
This one-week class is a mini-version of the popular George Street Playhouse Young Company. Students work with the faculty in the creation of a story on stage. Older students will be assigned roles that require lines, while our younger actors will focus on movement and ensemble creativity. So get on stage and shine!!!
Summer Fest August 3 - 7
How much theatrical fun can you pack into four days? Discover your creativity and express yourself with theatre games, skits, crafts and skills all culminating in creating our own Festival on the final day.

Teen Improv Masters June 22 – July 3
Ever wanted to be part of a comedy troupe? Develop your own SNL-style act and perform your sketch comedy for family and friends on the last day of class.
Teen Musical Production July 6 – July 17
Act, sing and dance in this week-long class for teens of all skill levels. Immerse yourself in all aspects of musical theatre. Students will have classes in dance, vocal performance, voice care and production, musical theatre acting style and technique, history, terminology and resources. This class ends with a showcase for an invited audience, to which friends and family are welcome to attend.
GSP Teen Young Company July 6 – July 24
This class is designed for Teens (ages 13–17) who wish to explore the full range of theatre production. The Teen Young Company will create and perform a full play for children and family audiences. Students will be involved in every aspect of production including writing, designing, building, performing and running the show for a weekend. The company will work with professional designers, directors, teachers and stage managers to learn the skills necessary to create their play. Each day will include acting technique and technical training. Each afternoon is spent rehearsing. Students must be committed to attend every class and performance during the three-week period. Limited enrollment. Acting students must audition. Call for dates. 12 year olds may apply, and will be accepted if space is available. Teen Conservatory July 27 – August 7 9am – 4pm
Let’s get to the real meat of acting. Students will work with professional acting teachers to develop skills and techniques, focusing on scene study, improvisation, dramaturgy, movement, voice production and character analysis. These two weeks will include group classes and specially-designed individual training tailored to the needs of each student. There will be a presentation of scenes on the final day of class.
