The Internet provides independent software vendors (ISVs) with new options for securely licensing their applications. Automated product activation enables secure and effortless node-locking on connected systems, with user self-service activation from any web browser for disconnected systems. ISVs can also allow their users to autonomously relocate their licenses, and can revoke existing licenses.
In addition, ISVs can offer Internet-based floating licensing, as well as traditional Intranet-based floating licensing managed by a license server installed on the end-customer's network.
If ISVs also sell via resellers or OEMs, an Internet-based licensing system enables the ISV to delegate order fulfillment to their channel partner while still tracking every license activated.
All these scenarios - activation of trial and production licenses, license relocation, license revocation, Internet/Intranet floating licensing, and reseller licensing - are supported by one licensing solution with only one API to integrate into the protected applications, and one executable for distribution to all customers.
ISVs with legacy key-based systems can also bring the management of all their licensing systems into a single web portal that automates delivery, tracks all licenses, provides reporting, and allows resellers or enterprise customers to generate their own keys.
