PRLog (Press Release) - Apr 28, 2009 -
In just three months since its launch, Scotsman.com's political blog The Steamie has established itself as one of Scotland's top political blogs.

Thanks to its formidable team of writers, who populate the blog with a mix of political news, analysis and gossip, The Steamie attracts close to 6,000 visitors and almost 20,000 page impressions every month.

The Steamie's contributing journalists - drawn from The Scotsman, Scotland on Sunday and Edinburgh Evening News- include Ross Lydall, Kenny Farquharson, Gerri Peev, Eddie Barnes, George Kerevan, Tom Peterkin, David Maddox, Ian Swanson and  Hamish Macdonell.

David Maddox, The Scotsman's Scottish Political Correspondent, was short-listed in the Multimedia Journalist of the Year category for his work on The Steamie at this year's Scottish Press Awards.

Scotland on Sunday assistant editor and contributor to The Steamie, Kenny Farquharson, said:
"In just a few months, The Steamie has established itself as the number one place in the blogosphere for Scottish political news, analysis and gossip, provided by the nation's most experienced team of political journalists and commentators.

"In the nicest possible way, The Steamie was set up to be be the place where Scottish politics washes its dirty linen; where policies and strategies are held up to the light and scrutinised; and where political reputations are examined for unsightly stains.

"With contributions ranging from gossipy asides to serious policy analysis, plus running commentaries on days when there are rapidly-moving major political news stories, The Steamie is now an indispensable part of the Scottish political landscape."

The blog, which was launched in January 2009, is named after the communal wash-houses that were common in urban Scotland in the 1950s, commonly known as steamies.

The phrase has survived into contemporary Scottish speech - when something is "the talk of the steamie" it's the talk of the town, the word on the street.
