The Goshen Area Prayer Leaders Network today announced plans for the 2009 National Day of Prayer on May 7th. They will be sponsoring a gathering at noon in Goshen on the west lawn of the Elkhart County Courthouse. There will also be prayer breakfasts in Goshen and Nappanee and an evening prayer and worship time hosted by Zion Chapel.
The gathering will be held at noon and feature a time of worship and prayer led by local community members and Mayor Allan Kauffman reading his proclamation designating May 7th as the National Day of Prayer in Goshen.
In case of rain, the alternate site will be LifeSpring Community Church, located just south of the courthouse at 166 S 3rd Street.
Millions will unite in prayer as thousands of events will take place from coast to coast. The theme for this year is "Prayer... America's Hope" and is based on Psalm 33:22 which states: "May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you."
Other local events will include a prayer breakfast hosted by the Maple City Kiwanis at the Salvation Army facility at 1013 N. Main St. in Goshen from 6:30 – 7:30 a.m. Reservations are required prior to the event and may be obtained by contacting Dean DeVoe at 533-5330. Cost is $5.00 for the breakfast. Special speaker will be Dr. Craig Yoder of Middlebury.
