To enhance the ease of foreign tourists, Thai Government is all set to relax the visa rules. Fee for tourist visa is now reduced for three months from 5 March, 2009 to 4 June, 2009. Nationals from 20 countries now enjoy visa on arrival for 15 days visit to Thailand. Along with it, facility of visa-free stay in Thailand for 30 days is available to citizens of 42 countries. This reduction is going to help foreign tourists in a greater extent and going to add to the Thai economy.
On 3 February earlier this year Thai Cabinet approved a visa exemption scheme for transit passengers through Suvarnabhumi International Airport The visa fee reduction mission is personally spearheaded by Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. Commenting on this new facility, Mr. Vejjajiva said it will help in reviving the Thai economy and boost the tourism.

The number of tourists visiting Thailand in general and Koh Samui in particular is whooping one. The luxury villas and resorts at Thailand promising a quality and comfortable stay are one of the catalysts for this growth. According calculations of Thai Government, in 2009, they are expecting 14 million visitor arrivals, with tourism revenue projected at 505 billion baht (US$14.46 billion). After this visa fee relaxation measure, the number is going to be increased in the following months.
