The new strain is an apparent mixed collection of several strains of influenza A virus subtype H1N1 including a strain endemic in humans and two strains endemic in pigs, as well as an avian influenza. World Health Organization describing the outbreak of swine flu as a major concern. The virus appears already to have started to spread around the world.

There have been several reported death cases due to swine flue infection in Mexico. Infection control experts are scrambling to respond to outbreaks of swine flu in Mexico and the US, and suspected cases elsewhere.

Contingency plans

In addition to maintaining good hygiene, e.g. regular hand-washing and staying a safe distance from those infected (i.e. isolation of infected individuals); the following contingency plans are recommended.

•   Plan 1: Swine flu Suspect Only: Decontamination of premises using fogging system. All Biocide, virucide and bactericide are EPA (USA) registered.

•   Plan 2: Swine flu Confirmed: Decontamination of premises using fogging system. Wiping down all surfaces up to 6 ft with biocide, virucide and bactericide. All surfaces will also be treated with Aegis anti Microbial.

A six-log post-sampling test will be done to confirm that the level of microbial activity in the environment has reduced drastically.

AEGIS antimicrobial is based on the active molecule quaternary ammonium, highly-effective proven broad spectrum microbicide molecule.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has specifically identified glutaraldehyde, detergents and quaternary ammonium products as effective disinfectants against the Avian Influenza virus.

The WHO also indicates that the virus "remains viable for long periods in tissue, feces and water, but is high susceptible to disinfection."

ÆGIS is anti viral and anti microbial. Kill two birds with one stone, and get immediate and long term benefits like reduction of microbial activity and spikes in your treated indoor environment
