April 27, 2009 - PRLog -- A recent metal horse sculpture, by sculptor Jonathan Bowling, has just been selected for a national juried outdoor sculpture exhibition, The 2009 Cary Visual Art Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition.

"west," a 14h-hand filly, was constructed out of steel, including recycled steel from horse-drawn wagons, saw blades, automobile parts and farm equipment.

Mr. Bowling, a Kentucky native, is honored by this recognition of his work, which he plans to bring to the races at Churchill Downs tomorrow, along with another metal horse sculpture, "belgian."

Bowling recently traveled with his caravan of horse sculptures, from his workshop in Greenville, NC, to Kentucky.

The exhibition's juror was Linda Johnson Dougherty, Chief Curator & Curator of Contemporary Art at the North Carolina Museum of Art.  Prior to joining the staff at the North Carolina Museum of Art, she co-directed the public art program for the state of North Carolina for several years, and was a curator at The Phillips Collection, a research associate at the National Gallery of Art, and a research assistant at the National Museum of American Art in Washington, DC.  She has a BA in Art History from Wesleyan University and an MA in Art History from Williams College.
