(Regina, SK) — The Canadian Short Screenplay Competition, the most prestigious screenwriting competition in Canada, has crowned the winners and their scripts for 2008. There were submissions from all across the world in this annual competition and after several rounds of intense judging only three scripts remained to claim the top honours. Among the three winning authors, two are from Alberta. Daniel Audet and Gordon Pengilly, both hailing from Calgary, placed third and first, respectively in the National competition.
Audet, both an artist and screenwriter, was raised on an expansive ranch in Southern Alberta. On his winning short film script Rusted Pyre, Audet explains, “The surreal landscape of my youth informed this story in a big way”.
Pengilly, a familiar name to theatregoers, wrote the first place script, Seeing In The Dark. Pengilly, a seven-time winner of Alberta playwriting competitions and a five-time winner of national and international competitions, can now add the CSSC to his impressive list of accolades.
