Follow on Google News | Andy Stedman - New Single 'You Keep Me Up 'Till 3 O'Clock' Released Jun 1st 2009Artist: Andy Stedman Title: You Keep Me Up Till 3 O’Clock, First Cigarette Format: Digital Download, USB Stick, CD Single Release Date: June 1st, 2009 Label: Sonic Vista Recordings (SVRCD009)
Andy’s debut single shows off his cheeky, charming and bittersweet storytelling skills, and is a tale of being kept up until 3am, doing what we humans do. It also includes the tongue-in cheek cry to “have some adventures before we need dentures,” which is the line listeners most quote to him from any of his songs. So perceptive are his lyrics that fans could be excused for wondering if ‘Stedders’ Andy went solo in May 2008 with his own style of 'power pop', after a 5 year stint in the band Sequoia, highlights of which were receiving Radio 2 play, gigging twice at NEC Birmingham's "Clothes Show Live", a Stedman solo Shepherd's Bush Empire appearance as well as various radio sessions, including a day with the legendary Dave Lee Travis recording and being interviewed in his home. After a year or so of struggling to keep the band’s work ethic high, Stedman decided to go it alone, claiming that he “won’t break up with himself.” Since then his gigs and fan pages have seen encouraging amounts of support so far from all ages of fans, from youngsters right up to these who now have dentures! Andy used some innovative marketing techniques to fund his debut album, utilising social networking sites MySpace and Facebook and his growing army of fans. Many of them donated contributions towards the recording of the album, ranging from £10 from teenagers and students to over £200 from some of the older fans. Each fan got their name and photograph printed inside the album (although about half of them were too shy, or ugly, for this), plus a copy of the album and free entry to the exclusive album preview. These fantastic donations made up a large contribution towards the creation and launch of the new album, "Causin' Havoc, Breakin' Hearts". Andy recently showcased at Canadian Music Week and followed that with a mini tour of Ontario. His shows were so well received that a full Canadian release of his album is being lined up. If you haven't seen him play live yet, you are missing not only a quality musical experience but the hilarious and piss-taking banter that goes on between many of the songs. In an era when many acts try too hard to be cool, Andy's comedic charm is a breath of fresh air. Andy’s solo work has garnered plaudits from far and wide: "Even with a busy schedule Andy still managed to include some of his light humour between songs which warmed up the crowd and left me with a great first impression. ". riffs and, did I mention the accent?, Andy Stedman is making his mark on this side of the indie pool.” “The Middle of the Sea” has a great chorus it overuses just a tad … you know, like “Hey Jealously” overused its chorus (for example). And it sounds to me like a tune that could make Stedman a similar quantity of dough.
