SEC Seeks an Executive Order From President Barack Obama to Halt the Construction of New Nuclear Plants

In a petition to President Barack Obama, Saporito Energy Consultants, Inc. (“SEC”) requested an Executive Order to halt the construction of new nuclear plants in the United States.

According to SEC’s president, Thomas Saporito, “The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (“NRC”) appears to be overwhelmed in its day-to-day operations overseeing the 104-existing nuclear power plants operating in the United States. The serious safety violations at the Florida Power and Light Company’s (“FPL’s”) Turkey Point Nuclear Plant underscore how the NRC has failed to protect public health and safety. How can the public be assured that the NRC has the resources to oversee new nuclear plant construction as well?” Saporito said.

FPL has publicly announced that it intends to make an application later this year to build two new nuclear plants at the existing Turkey Point Nuclear Plant site.
