Teaching the faith is an important yet daunting task. To help teach and learn the Catholic faith thoroughly and confidently The Apostolate for Family Consecration offers a new and engaging program called Family Catechesis.
Family Catechesis is a three year systematic weekly multimedia catechetical and evangelization program that brings together the catechism, Scripture and engaging activities for a solid Catholic Faith formation for families, parish members, organizations and movements.
The program consists of “The Apostolate’s Family Catechism”, its main text, Cardinal Francis Arinze’s Commentaries on DVD, and comprehensive Discussion Guides available for free at www.familyland.org. In addition, a new website unveiled in January at the International Meeting of Families in Mexico can be used by the internet savvy in place of “The Apostolate’s Family Catechism” and Cardinal Arinze’s commentaries. The website is easily accessible at www.familycatechism.com and will include an extensive video library featuring leading Catholic theologians and experts like Francis Cardinal Arinze, Fr. Pablo Straub, Mother Teresa, and Dr. Scott Hahn.
“The Apostolate’s Family Catechism” contains 304 questions and answers pertaining to the Creed, sacraments, prayer and the Ten Commandments. It has been found to be in conformity with the “Catechism of the Catholic Church” by the Ad Hoc Committee to Oversee the Use of the Catechism, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Cardinal Arinze provides further insight and explanation to each of the 304 questions in the Family Catechism in his Commentaries on DVD.
“What’s unique about Family Catechesis is that it helps families to learn the faith together and apply it in their everyday lives”, said Jerry Coniker, co-founder of the Family Apostolate. “The program is so easy to use that parents will not feel they need to know everything about the Faith before they can teach it to their children.
“Cardinal Arinze’s commentaries provide the necessary support to what is being learned from the Apostolate’s Family Catechism. Even parishes, organizations and church movements can benefit from the program.”
Founded in 1975 by Jerry Coniker and late wife Gwen, the Apostolate for Family Consecration is a
pontifically approved international association striving to sanctify families by consecrating them to the
Holy Family, and by teaching the truths of the Faith in the spirit of Pope John Paul II. The Family Apostolate reaches families in Asia, Europe, Africa, and North and South America through its 24-hour Familyland Television Network, its Consecration in Truth Catechetical Series, its Internet Library and its programs at Catholic Familyland.
