Belmont Rapid Infuser Helps Save Officer’s Life

April 24, 2009 - PRLog -- The Belmont  Rapid Infuser, a medical device used extensively in Combat Support Hospitals to treat wounded soldiers, civilians, and enemy combatants in Iraq, is credited with helping to save the life of an Omaha, NE Police Officer.

The officer was shot three times during a traffic stop.  One of the bullets hit him in the abdomen and traveled down his leg rupturing a major artery.

“Injury to this area is often lethal…when he arrived here he obviously had an abdomen completely full of blood,” stated Dr. Robert Fitzgibbons, Jr. (Creighton University Medical Center).  “He still had brain activity…..but he had no pulse. He had no blood pressure.”

A Belmont infuser is what doctors believe made this medical miracle possible.  Dr. Nahel Saied, also of Creighton University Medical Center, said that “the Belmont Infuser made it possible for the officer to recover during the critical phase, and now is moving to the next phase of treatment.”
