Intuitive da Vinci Robot will be Used for Minimally-Invasive Procedures  

Dallas – (April 14, 2009) – Forest Park Medical Center -- a new, state-of-the-art, full service acute care hospital – is proud to announce that da Vinci Robotic Surgeries are now being performed at Forest Park Medical Center which is located just off of I-75 and Forest Lane.  

The da Vinci S HD Surgical System integrates 3D HD endoscopy and state-of-the-art robotic technology to virtually extend the surgeon’s eyes and hands into the surgical field. The system is the hospital's first da Vinci System that offers unparalleled 3D HD visualization.

"The da Vinci® S HD™ System provides surgeons greater than twice the viewing resolution and 20% more viewing area.  This means improved clarity and detail of tissue planes and anatomy -- critical when performing delicate dissection or in reconstructive procedures," says Susie Edler, Administrator and CNO at Forest Park Medical Center. "This means a better outcome for the patient with fewer risks of complications, a reduced hospital stay and a shorter recovery time."

Surgeons Alan Munoz and Roseanne Olmstead along with a team of nurses, anesthesiologist Richard Toussaint, and technicians, were the first to perform a total hysterectomy using the new da Vinci S at Forest Park Medical Center.

"We are very pleased to have the opportunity to be the first team at Forest Park Medical Center to operate with the da Vinci S model. We've only started to explore all the capabilities of this system," Dr. Munoz says.

The da Vinci Surgical System consists of an ergonomically designed surgeon’s console, a patient-side cart with four interactive robotic arms, the high-performance InSite® Vision System and proprietary EndoWrist® Instruments. Powered by state-of-the-art robotic technology, the surgeon’s hand movements are scaled, filtered and seamlessly translated into precise movements of the EndoWrist Instruments. The net result is an intuitive interface with breakthrough surgical capabilities.
