LONG BEACH, California – Lakewood SK8, a ministry of First Baptist Church of Lakewood, will be holding its eighth skateboarding, BMX, and video game competition Saturday, May 16th from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 17th from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. Competitions will also be held in aggressive inline and scooter. Admission is free and prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each competition level. Food and special competition t-shirts and DVDs will be available for purchase. Registration is required the day of the event and release waivers must be signed by a legal guardian for all minors.
The skateboarding and BMX competitions will include ten-and-under beginning, beginning, intermediate, advanced and adult / sponsored categories. Aggressive inline will have three levels of competition and scooter will have two. The video game competitions will include Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Street Fighter IV, SKATE 2, Guitar Hero World Tour / Metallica, Mario Kart Wii, DDR X and Rock Band 2.
Special prizes, including autographed skateboards by professional skateboarders Mike Vallely and George Orton and high-end electronic items donated by Best Buy will be raffled off. Professional vert and downhill world champion skateboarder George Orton will also be present both days along with other professional athletes. There will be product tosses and demos and confirmed sponsors attending the event include Katarak Klothing, Frank’s Bicycles, Revelation Sport, State of Mind, Skate Attic and I SK8 2 U. Brent Eldridge, a popular Hume Lake speaker and lead pastor of First Baptist Church of Lakewood will be guest speaking on Saturday and Richard Jefferson, professional skateboarder and speaker will headline the awards ceremony on Sunday.
