The newest addition to Oklahoma Technical College’s showroom is a rare 1964 ½ Ford Mustang. Owner of the Mustang and retired business owner of 35 years, Lee Tinsley, is a local Tulsan and has agreed to partner with Oklahoma Technical College to showcase his vehicle. Ivan Acosta, Property Manger for OTC, states “We are excited to be able to host such a beautiful car in our school. Students really enjoy seeing all of the neat cars that we rotate in the showroom. The Mustang looks great with our 1929 Ford Roadster parked next to it!”
The Mustang belonged to Mr. Tinsley’s daughter in law who had always wanted the car, but her dad would never agree to give it to her and bought her a truck instead. When her father passed away and Lee’s daughter in law was the will executor she discovered the car had been stored in a barn for 25 years along with other vehicles, parts and antiques. Mr. Tinsley asked his daughter in law for the VIN number of the car and realized it was a rare early 1965 which meant a 64 ½ production. Ken Tinsley, Lee’s son, and his wife pulled the Mustang out of the barn and loaded it in a trailer to Tulsa, all the wells were locked. They delivered the car to Lee on June 6, 2006 when Lee and his friend Bill Harrod began restoration. The complete restoration took 2 ½ years to complete.
