SARASOTA, Fla. – A free pet first aid guide is now available from Veterinary Neuro Services to help owners aid their pets in an emergency.
April is Pet First Aid Awareness Month and the guide was created to help pet owners assemble a first aid kit for their household animals, said Dr. Anne Chauvet, founder of Veterinary Neuro Services. The guide also provides simple instructions to handle common emergency situations until the pet can be taken to the veterinarian or emergency clinic.

The guide includes instructions for dealing with a dog or cat emergency such as vomiting, fractures, choking and heat stroke. It also gives instructions for pet heart massage if the cat or dog is not breathing and provides contact information for help in suspected poisonings.
“I urge all pet owners to take the time in April to put their own pet emergency care kit together in honor of Pet First Aid Awareness Month. Of course, this never should take the place of veterinary care, but it can give owners the time to get their pet to a clinic,” Chauvet said. “I hope it is never needed, but it just might save the life of someone’s faithful furry friend.”
