Too many attitudes are towards matching a candidate and a the job, and little emphasis is on finding out whether there is a company out there which is right for the candidate.

Recruiters need to start asking candidates what it is they’re really looking for, finding out about their experiences at work, style of management, the environment they prefer, as well as the size and style of company they desire to work with next.  

Building a deeper understanding and rapport with candidates will mean that recruiters are better placed to identify opportunities before they arise, and make knowledgeable and informed introductions between the right people. Taking that time to dig into the person and not just the skills allows for a deeper understanding of businesses, and a more valuable service to the people within them.
