The Bend Foundation Commits $100,000 to Local Social Service Agencies

April 21, 2009 - PRLog -- Bend, Oregon,  The Bend Foundation Board of Trustees met last week in Bend, Oregon and unanimously approved a $100,000 contribution to be divided among several core social service agencies that have a significant impact on the health and well-being of the Central Oregon community.

“Tough economic times have affected non-profit organizations that serve a vital role in our community,” said Mike Hollern, Trustee of The Bend Foundation and Chairman of Brooks Resources Corporation. “By committing a larger dollar amount to a select number of core organizations, we hope to make an impact where it is needed most and help to get children and families the basics they need to survive, such as food and health services.”

The agencies receiving funds from the donation include Bend's Community Center, Family Resource Center, Family Kitchen, KIDS Center, MountainStar Family Relief Nursery, Saving Grace and Volunteers in Medicine.

In addition, the Bend Foundation board approved an extension of the ArtMatch program through 2012. ArtMatch, which is a collaboration of the Celebrate Bend Foundation, Brooks Resources, The Bend Foundation, Art in Public Places, and the Arts Beautification and Culture Commission, began three years ago to fund more public art in Bend. When private or public contributions are made to ArtMatch, The Bend Foundation will match up to $500,000 for works installed by December 31, 2010 in public places. This pledge has now been extended to December 2012 to allow more time for ArtMatch to raise the required matching funds and to spread out the expenditures for art at a time when there are so many critical human needs in our communities.
