Flare Solutions Limited (Flare) has been awarded the Queens Award for Enterprise Innovation 2009. The company was recognised for its development and deployment of web based knowledge management software for the international oil and gas exploration and production industry.
"We are delighted to win this award, it recognises the hard work we have put in as a team, for an approach which has proven to save companies time looking for information"
The software E&P Catalog is used today in over 30 countries to intelligently tag and search electronic and physical information. The Queen's Award is the highest honour that can be bestowed on a UK company and represents independent recognition of outstanding achievements in innovation. Her Majesty the Queen conferred the award after approving the recommendation from the Prime Minister. A celebratory reception will be held in Buckingham Palace later this year.
Flare is a virtual organisation, operating without a physical office since its creation in 1998. With staff in Europe and North America, the techniques and behaviours developed by Flare working in this business model have been studied by Henley Management College in the UK and the University of Calgary.
This is the second award in recent years. In December 2006 Flare won the BCS European Knowledge Management Project Award for the deployment of their E&P Catalog product at Shell.
