The Phenomenal Women’s Alliance, under the leadership of Vanessa Walker Allen, established its significance in the community in 2008 when state and local governments, faced with budget crisis, were forced to cut back on local services. PWA stepped in to fill a void by offering funds to help meet the budget shortfalls in community services.
“PWA is proud to be a part of this nation’s ‘moment of change,’” said Allen, founder and CEO of PWA, quoting President Obama. “The members of PWA believe in putting action behind the words of our mission, ‘providing women the tools, resources, and support needed to succeed. Like the women whose contributions we are honoring, the members of PWA live that motto every day. While others are busy singing the praises of the Nobel laureates and international agents of change, we want to draw attention to the “silent heroes” of our community,” she continued. “Those hard-working phenomenal women who don’t seek the limelight yet are making contributions that are impacting and promoting change on a global level.”
The monies raised at the Leadership Luncheon will be donated to help support education for at-risk young girls, summer enrichment programs, and the mission and endeavors of PWA.
