Global Network has developed a unique solution to control showering times and save water. It is a fully automated device called the Shower Manager. “It gives the shower-taker a full-flow of water for a pre-set time period. Once this time has expired, the water flow is cut by two-thirds, leaving just enough to rinse, but not enough flow to encourage continued showering,” says Don Brunkhardt, founder of the company.
Mom (or Dad) programs in the full-flow (5, 8 or 11 minutes) time frame using a special sensor. A 5-minute reset interval prevents the shower-taker from overriding the system. The unit can be installed in minutes, without the need for a plumber. It installs between the shower pipe coming out of the wall and the existing showerhead, and is powered by a small low-voltage battery.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that residential showering represents 17% of indoor water use - over 1.2 trillion gallons of water. States such as California, which are in drought status, are asking residents to take water conservation measures and reduce water consumption usage by as much as 19%.
