2008 Cruise Passenger Readers’ Choice Awards
There wouldn’t be a cruise industry without passengers and there wouldn’t be a Cruise Passenger magazine if it weren’t for our readers. So a big thanks to everyone who voted in the 2008 Cruise Passenger Readers’ Choice Awards. The stand-out winner is Carnival Australia with its Cunard Line vessel Queen Mary 2 taking out six awards and Pacific Princess, Pacific Sun and Sun Princess each winning a gong.
Jenny Lourey, senior vice president at Carnival Australia, which operates P&O Cruises Australia, P&O World Voyages, Cunard Line and Princess Cruises, says the company is delighted by its wins. “It’s so rewarding to see how much Cruise Passenger readers love our ships.”
Other notable winners include MV Orion – Best Adventure Cruise Ship and Best Small Ship (under 500 pax), a recurring favourite with our readers, and Captain Cook Cruises’ Murray Princess proving more popular than overseas river ships.
Key features include:
Forget the recession and enjoy our pick of the Top 10 Cruise Indulgences – from top-drawer ships to butler service, dressing up and extreme luxury tours.
Gourmet river cruise in Burgundy and Provence – no wonder European river cruising is so popular. Recent ICCA figures show that 27,645 Australians took a European river cruise in 2008, a 135% growth on 2007 figures.
The Morning Show presenter Kylie Gillies writes about her first cruise – Kylie, her husband Tony and their two sons took a famiy cruise to the South Pacific on Pacific Dawn.

2009 Cruise Passenger Magazine Adventure Cruise Guide
Following on from the unqualified success of the first edition of Cruise Passenger Magazine’s Adventure Cruise Guide, the second edition is on newsstands now. Despite the economic gloom mongers, the 2009 edition is larger and more comprehensive than before and covers new destinations, vessels and itineraries.
Besides the new ships, this issue profiles the variety of activities available to small ship and expedition cruisers regardless of whether they want a hard-edged, heroic era experience like the Shackleton Crossing of South Georgia or just a deserted beach somewhere in the Pacific Ocean for a cocktail and massage.
Expedition and adventure cruising is proving to be the new ‘big thing’ in small group, eco-sensitive, responsible travel. If you are looking for an alternative to the crush of humanity in the world’s great metropolises or virtual experiences in crowded theme parks, avoid the queues and really get away from it all aboard one the world’s little ships.
Small ships make a big difference and you’ll find plenty of inspiration in the 2009 Cruise Passenger Magazine Adventure Cruise Guide.
