New York – April 17- Flight 001, the world’s only travel store, is debuting a groundbreaking new service in its New York City flagship location. Titled “Baggage Claim For Hire”, the program launched earlier this month loaning pieces of high-end luggage to travelers.
The service, which was conceived from customer feedback, will enable travelers to look stylish in transit at a fraction of the retail price for a high-quality piece of luggage. In places like New York City, where space is at a premium, the service will also save frequent flyers from storing luggage when not in use. “Instead of compromising by buying a cheap, disposable piece of luggage, this will allow customers to rent first class luggage only when they need it, skipping the hassle of storage,” said Brad John, Flight 001 co-founder and director of merchandising.
During its initial launch, the luggage available for hire will be exclusively Rimowa, a German manufacturer with over 100 years of experience in the luggage industry, known for combining function and design, using lightweight polycarbonate materials in sleek, wheeled cases. The check-in sizes will be offered by the day or the week at reasonable rates for all consumers.
Flight 001’s program will expand later this spring to its San Francisco location, and roll out company-wide throughout 2009.
