Africa And The World Wide Web

the likes of China are pumping human and material resources into Africa; Africa so far behind in every aspect of modernization, will take more than media window dressing to place her on the economic and developmental map of honor.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AFRICA AND THE WORLD WIDE WEB

Information technology illiteracy in Africa is a disease African governments must tackle if the Continent must take its place in the 21st Century global economy
Africa’s estimated population of 975,330,899 (nine hundred and seventy five million three hundred and thirty thousand five hundred) has 54,171,500 (fifty four million one hundred and seventy one thousand) internet users this amounts to only 3.4 % of total world internet users, and comparing her 5.6% penetration level to Latin America/Caribbean’s  29.9 % penetration level and 173,619,140 internet users of a population of 581,249,892, it is clear Africa still have a long way to go. Latin America/Caribbean’s internet users make up 10.9% of world internet users according to the March 31, 2009 internet user statistics by “internet world stats”.

Africa’s population is growing like that of any other continent; however there are no solid game plans to bring its internet user percentages close to the 21st century Information Technology mark.
However, if figures are facts, and inspite of the likes of China are pumping human and material resources into Africa; Africa so far behind in every aspect of modernization, will take more than media window dressing to place her on the economic and developmental map of honor.
With the vast developmental potential afforded by access to modern technology developed elsewhere and the abundant man power and ingenuity available in Africa, African governments should start taking responsibility for their future inclusion in the modern, cyber connected 21st century and start by looking inwards for solutions, after all Africa has been the birthplace of thousands of inventions and the cradle of civilization!  When at last our people arrive at the conclusive mentality that the World cannot get Africa a life, we will stop blaming everybody and anybody for our backwardness and woes! If we built great civilizations on other continents in past decades, we can do it for Africa today!
African governments are very good at hosting meetings at which the technology, fruit juices, food, cutlery, furniture and lavish splendor from everywhere but Africa, reflect thriving non-African economies. The only evidence of a ‘made in Africa’ label are the long speeches, in-depth details of ‘what’ we need and need to do,  all bound together by the warm hospitality of the good African heart. This flagrant marginalization of products bearing African branding, leads one to think that African leaders seem to have blinded themselves to the facts that our industrial and service sectors will never survive if they are not patronized and empowered, and that these are the sectors that will drive the economy forward with the vital input of a repositioned ICT presence in Africa. Thousands of companies are daily on the verge of collapse and thousands more have forgotten they once existed!
For too long the debate on the ‘what’ we need has raged on, and the ‘which African’ will bring it to fruition, has been a little exploited factor that must start impacting on our choices of the decision makers that will move indigenous Africa forward!
Impassioned by the need to enable the world know about Africa from a positive perspective and mindful of the picture that ignorance presents, we came up with this unique website -http://madeinafrika.info.
The site is the commencement of the much talked about project and need to network Africa business by business. It is user friendly, well thought out and comprehensive in the depth of information it gives. And it provides the only means by which Africa it forcibly brought into the same neighborhood as all the thriving economies around the world-the World Wide Web! The site will enable African Manufacturers and Service Providers market themselves using the Internet and also access for themselves business opportunities provided by international organizations such as the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
Madeinafrika.info provides resource information about traditional African business organizations such as hotels, banks, real estate, tourism, and vehicular manufacturing in Africa and much more. It allows job seeker and job Providers avenues by which they will reach out to each other. Manufacturers and distributors are able by our database an opportunity by which they can locate each other. It provides helpful editorial content and links to important valuable information for small businesses. Another reason for this website is to encourage the use of local products and encourage inter regional business integration as stated in Africa Union (AU) acts and Africa regional acts,
Africa is not only about Somalia, Darfur, war, hunger and mineral resources. Africa is about everything that is good that can be found in other countries. We have a chance to get the ‘other news’ about Africa and empowered with the whole picture of how Africans are striving to do well. This mega website is a repository of which African enterprise is where, and what they do best! It affords us a means by which we all share ownership of jobs well done and the pride of an African continent vibrant with activity, and enterprise!
We want the 50,000,000 and more Africans who do use the internet frequently to have more reasons to go to the net besides an attraction to carry out fraud and to find that we can do legitimate internet powered business in Africa from the comfort of their homes and offices.
